The Texas Association Against Sexual Assault (TAASA), its members and partners are pleased to announce the Texas PEACE Project’s 2010 Youth Summit, June 11-13, 2010. This year's youth summit will be hosted by TAASA at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas.

The summit is an opportunity for youth across Texas to actively engage in statewide efforts to create social change and equality as a means of ending sexual and dating violence.   In addition to being a wonderful networking opportunity for Texas youth, the summit will have two main functions:

  1.  To provide training to peer educators and their adult allies on the connections between various forms of oppression (e.g., sexism, racism, homophobia and adultism) and sexual and dating violence
  2. To develop a strategic plan for promoting youth-led social change and equality in communities across Texas so that sexual and dating violence cease to exist

This summit is intended for Texas youth who are enthusiastic about ending sexual and dating violence.  Ideal attendees are the youth who are passionate enough about the issues to take the knowledge and skills gained at the summit and inspire their peers to make change happen in their community.  In addition, we are looking for adult allies who recognize the power of youth and who are willing and able to support youth as they lead the charge.

We are limiting the number of summit attendees to 100 peer educators and 25 adult allies.  In other words, every 4 peer educators will be accompanied by 1 adult ally.  We are hoping to gather youth activists that have a strong desire to create change and equality and the ability to inspire their peers to join them.   If you are part of an existing program (Students Taking Action for Respect) and/or have more than four potential youth attendees, we recommend the youth select four delegates that will represent the chapter at the summit.  It is important for youth to select their delegates as it reinforces the power of youth and their ownership of the chapter.   Summit delegates will be the people that members will rely on to provide a voice for their chapter and community and to relay the knowledge and skills gained at the summit.   For those that are unable to attend, we will be conducting regional trainings to introduce the Texas PEACE Project.  We will provide some of the same training from the summit as well as support for launching a local chapter of the project.

The deadline to register is May 14th unless the slots are filled sooner than that.. Applications that are not complete by deadline will not be considered. If possible, please register all applicants together. You will receive a confirmation email with all the information you will need once your application has been accepted. The confirmation packet will include a campus map and list of items you should bring to the summit.
